Ropet is a small plush-covered companion with a screen face, a camera and microphones. It recognises faces, reacts to being fed and handled, and expresses moods. It debuted at CES 2025 at $299 and shipped to its Kickstarter backers from May 2025.

It matters here mainly as the direct, cheaper answer to Casio's Moflin — same emotional pitch, $130 less, and unlike Moflin it has a real Amazon listing.

What's real

  • $299 — the cheapest credible entry into the furry-companion category.
  • Available on Amazon US, unlike Moflin (Casio-direct) or Tombot (waitlist).
  • Has a face and a camera, so it can actually recognise and respond to you — more interactive than a Moflin.
  • Shipped to its 1,134 Kickstarter backers from May 2025, so it demonstrably exists.

Know before you watch (or buy)

  • A crowdfunded product from a young company — nothing like Casio's balance sheet behind it. Long-term support is an open question.
  • Battery is 2.5–3.5 hours per charge (the maker's own figure).
  • The emotional-intelligence claims are the maker's marketing; we found no independent long-term review.
  • We could not confirm any CES award, despite the CES press presence.

The evidence

Kickstarter-funded (1,134 backers, ~HK$2.4M); shipping to backers since May 2025; on sale via Amazon US.

Bottom line

The value pick of the category, and the sharpest question mark hanging over Moflin: if a $299 Ropet does the same emotional job as a $429 Moflin and is easier to buy, what exactly is Casio's premium for? We haven't tested either, so we're not answering that with a rating yet — but it's the comparison worth making.

FAQ

Ropet vs Moflin — which should you buy?

Ropet is $299 and on Amazon; Moflin is $429 and only from Casio. Ropet has a face and a camera and can recognise you; Moflin has neither and is purely tactile. Moflin has the far stronger track record (roughly 10,000 sold in Japan) and a solvent manufacturer behind it. We haven't tested either, so we won't crown one — but if price and buyability decide it for you, Ropet wins on both.
